This review is for the Casio Privia PX330:



Overall I really like this keyboard for practicing quietly at night and for connecting to a computer. I've been playing it for about a month. Here are my thoughts so far:



Key Touch Sensitivity:

The Casio web site advertisement states: "authentic piano touch that captures every detail and nuance of your performance". If that is your expectation, you will probably be disappointed with this keyboard. I have compared the Casio with two pianos that I play regularly (a Yamaha Baby Grand and a Spinet) and the Casio falls short of both pianos in this area. The Casio keys feel harder to press and do not have the volume/pressure sensitivity or dynamic range of the real pianos.



On the up side I will say that the Casio keyboard touch feels much better than other electronic keyboards I have tried in this price range and it also does a decent job of changing the volume depending upon how hard you press the keys.



Sound:

The keyboard sound using my own headphones (Sony MDR-V6) is great. The on-board speakers are ok, but sound a bit muffled on some of the piano styles. (Fortunately you can buy external speakers and connect them to this keyboard.)



Construction.

The keyboard is fairly light weight and not too hard to move around (although I'd wish it had carrying handles). The plastic music stand (included) and parts of the keyboard appear a bit on the thin side.



The keys visually look large, but I can't really explain why. I measured the entire width of all the keys and it is a match to my real piano.



Connectivity:

I've used the USB connection to my computer with no problems (Windows XP).



Functions:

Tons of functionality. The ones I've tried work well. Selecting some of functions can be a bit confusing though (pressing combinations of buttons, etc.), so I find myself going back to the manual to look up how to select them.



Misc:

- It comes with a nice printed manual.

- The sustain function using the included pedal does not seem to carry out the piano tone long enough, although it does vary depending upon what type of sound you have selected. (I don't know if the sustain length is a function of the pedal or the keyboard.)



Also note that there is a very nice Casio video showing this keyboard on YouTube. Search for "Casio Privia PX130 Preview". The video review is done with the Casio PX-130 which I think is the same keyboard as the 330 one with a few less functions.



Conclusion:

If you are looking to duplicate the sound/feel of a real piano, this is probably not the right keyboard for you. If you're looking for a really nice digital piano with touch sensitivity and lots fun features, then this is a nice choice.

Overall this is a very good product. I initially shied away from this because I've associated the Casio name with cheap plastic keyboards such as the kind you buy for kids. I bought it because, overall, the ratings were much better than I expected for (my preconceived notions about) a Casio. My preconceived notions are destroyed: this is a very good product. First - and this is important - this is a piece of furniture, not a cheap hunk of black and white plastic (and therefore this paino is not portable). It is a pleasure to look at and to play. It is easy to assemble and I did it by myself. The sound is crisp and clear. Does it sound like a real grand piano? Of course not! If you want the sound of a concert grand, shell out 110k for the basic D model and enjoy! If you are like me and can't spare 110k at the moment, but still love the sound of a concert grand, you will be happy with the sound of this product at 0.007th % of the price. I have only two complaints, one minor and one of more significance. The minor one is the clacking sound made by the keys make when you are playing pp. The not so minor one is that the keys are a little too heavy and takes some getting used to. You will have to adjust when paying your D model ;-)



BTW: Two points about about assembly: (1) be careful when you unpack the piano because some of the packing material is used to aid assembly; (2) do not tighten all the bolts until everything is assembled as some of the final parts are a tight fit (I scuffed on part a bit trying to fit a right angle together).

I really love the piano. The quality is awesome. It feels like a real piano, and it has a elegant design to it!

However, I have two problem with it.

1) The headphone jack does not work. One advantage that a digital piano has over traditional piano is the headphone feature, and I specifically checked this feature before I purchased this piano. The phone jack works, but only if I hold it in the whole time. As soon as I am not pushing it in, the sound comes out from the piano speaker. I am fairly disappointed, and will go to radio shack or something to search for an solution.

2) The bar with the three foot pedals had already broken in half when it came. I was really upset, but I taped it and put it together. It works fine now, but I am calling Casio for a repair.



These issues have nothing to do with the quality of the piano itself, but just something to take a note of. Remember to check the petal bar upon receiving before you sign for the UPS guy!!

This is all that we hoped. The sound quality and the look and feel are excellent. A few days ago I saw a Yamaha in a similar setup (case design was similar to the PX-800) for 499 but when looking closer at the display I could see that it was not near the quality of this Casio. The keys on that Yamaha seemed like a much lower priced keyboard. This Casio, on the other hand, has keys that feel very much like a traditional piano. No regrets about paying almost double for this unit compared to the Yamaha at the club store - I would do it again.

Bought this piano for about 3 months as a second piano for my son to practice. My son has been using Yamaha U1 for many years. This PX800 produces great sound like a real piano. When my son playing piano in the living room, we can't tell which piano he's playing, the real one, or the digital one? In fact, my boy likes to play PX800 a lot more, as the digital piano can produce many other interesting and beautiful sounds beside piano tune, it makes piano practice more fun.

Received the PX800 a couple of days ago. The packaging was pretty battered and basically fell apart on its own, the piano parts were fine though. Contrary to other reviewers I did have some troubel putting it together. I am usuallt pretty handy with tools and don't have problems setting up Ikea furniture but somehow it took me ages to install the pedal bar - the screws for the corner protectors were rather fiddely. Up front I would like to state that this digital piano is good for the price I paid and the purpose it is for (not professional, just for fun). However, I don't like the keys. The plastic just doesn't feel right and is sticky. Also the weighted hammer action is not as dynamic as I expected. When you decrease the volume a bit you hear the keys clatter quite a lot which is very irritating. Also the sustain padel squeaks and as it is all plastic (give me a break) I don't know if I can use a drop of oil. We have a rather soft carpet in the room where the PX800 stands and it is really unstable - I will have to buy something to put under it. Again: for the price this digital piano is good and it should not be compared to an upright or even a grand. Given the same amount of money I would buy it again (but to be honest - next time I will just spend more...).

This is a very nice keyboard for home use, even more so as the price is right. The digital readout is easy to see, with nice big black letters and numbers for the important information. The sound is crisp and clear. There are many voices and rhythms to choose from. I especially like the "teach yourself to play" system with so many playalong tunes and a nice fat songbook. The folk and classical rhythms and accompaniments are WONDERFUL and not found on other keyboards. I like the piano voices in my CT640 better though. Maybe one day I will have this set up as a MIDI and can download those better voices from the Casio website into this keyboard. It's really a very nice instrument, with a headphone jack that works well, putting out a similar sound to what comes through the speakers. Because the piano voices are not the greatest, I recommend adding a sustain pedal when ordering as well as the power adapter, and, if your earphones have the little pin plugs, you will need a stereo phone plug to stereo pin plug adapter.

There should have been a link or something advising this. The power cord was less than $27 including shipping and tax. I think for those who want to grow into intermediate piano level, this is the cheapest 76-key keyboard you can get apart from actually having an acoustic piano or hammer-action 88-key keyboards. I don't recommend 61-key keyboards unless you just want a toy that limits your repertoire.



Key Size:

I guess hammer action on inexpensive 76-key keyboards are apparently out of the question. So I'll turn my attention to the size of the keys themselves. One thing to keep in mind is that the keys on this keyboard are not piano sized. I measured a span of 5 octaves, and they are almost 1/2 inch shorter than the span of 5 octaves on a piano. But then again, neither does the more professional and more expensive 76-key Yamaha NP30 have piano-sized keys. Additionally, the Yamaha YPT-220 is about 1 inch shorter in its 5 octave span than that of a piano, this WK-200 is a little bit better.



Creaking Keys:

The quality of these Casio keys are not as good as those of Yamaha. I went to four separate stores and played around with these keyboards, and both the WK-200 and the WK-500 exhibited this creaking sound. To get an idea of what I mean, just turn off the keyboard and play something silently. Some keys will have a spongy, clicking sound. I checked out some Yamaha keyboards, and they didn't exhibit the same creaking or to the same extent if they did have a little bit, so I think Yamaha really pays attention to this problem. I would imagine some people won't notice, but for those that do, this might start to bother you after a while. For me, it was almost a relief that I didn't just get a defective one and that most of the lower end Casios have this issue, so I plan to keep it around for a while and sell it once I outgrow it.



Bottom line: If you want to get decent at the piano but can't afford something too expensive, this is a good option. But know that the keys are not piano-sized, and it doesn't have any Hammer Action that mimics the feel of pressing down on piano keys. Also, some keys have a creaky sound, so if you just want the cheapest thing to help you become a piano player, I think this will do. If you have a few hundred more dollars, I would look for greener pastures like the Yamaha NP30, Casio CDP-100, Casio Privia PX-120, or Casio Privia PX-130.

I have to laugh at the reviewers who are negatively comparing this piano to a professional grand that was used in a studio recording, or even keyboards that are priced in the $500-$1000 range. Get real!!! This is a 76-key instrument with the richest sound you can find for $200. It's more than adequate for a beginner to learn on (emphasis on "more than"!!) and there's no reason you couldn't use this in a semi-pro (or, for all I know, pro) studio environment. A lot of the tones are very lovely. The display is shockingly good for the price: every note you play gets displayed on the screen, both the key location and in its position on the staff. There are excellent built-in lessons for newcomers, endless tones and rhythms to play with, and an array of ins and outs (headphone, mic, MP3, usb to computer for midi connectivity).



Included in the box are an AC adaptor, music holder AND a pair of sheet music books. If there's one thing Casio knows how to do, it's cater to the consumer. How can they not be losing money on this fantastic product?

This keyboard has ALOT of features. In fact, you will probably spend alot of time digging through the instruction manual to figure out how to use them all. Once you learn the confusing button layout, this is an awesome keyboard because it is just so DAMN feature packed. It has three way speakers which is good when you input audio from an electronic drumkit or MP3 player.



I own some high end guitars and a high end Roland drumkit, and this doesn't compare to high end equipment. When playing along to my lesson DVD, there is a MASSIVE difference between this keyboard and the tone of Pete Sears' REAL grand piano. There is simply no comparison, but hey, that is probably a 20,000 dollar Piano.

The Casio stand is a necessary addition to the PX330. Why wouldn't anyone want to place the PX330 on a stand. Well, the stand matches the piano perfectly, very stable, smartly designed, required very simple installation, is made from wood, and is colored black to match the piano. It's a great design for home use, and the PX330 also is a fine electric keyboard to have fun with at home. It looks nice and sounds great. Unless you're Alfred Brendel, McCoy Tyner, or Stevie Wonder, this piano keyboard will be fine for all your piano playing. It has a very sleek design and can fit against a wall taking up minimal space. Great piano and stand for a great price.

I must say that I am impressed with the quality and pricing of the Privia 120. I purchased this as an upgrade from a YPT-210 66 key Yamaha keyboard. Since I have no traditional piano/keyboard music experience, I was really looking for a product that is affordable and easy to use. With the simplicity of the board the Privia 120 was perfect for me. I was also confident that my purchased would be handled accurately through Amazon as the seller. I highly recommend this product for those who are learning like me and also those who want a digital piano that plays wonderful and doesn't take up much room. I also recommend that you purchased the keyboard stand,The wood color matches perfectly and really compliments the digital piano. I did have an issue with buzzing in the speakers with one of the keys, but amazon sent me a new one (replacement) in less then 24hrs. Buying electronics through the internet can be nerve racking "..Cause what if something goes wrong?" But dealing directly through amazon was painless and reassuring. Hope this helps those that are still debating on purchasing.

The annoying sound mentioned in other reviews is also present on my PX120. It sounds like jingle bells in the background. It is important to note that this is not an artifact of the speakers, you will hear it on headphones as well. Also, it is not just 3 notes, it occurs on various chords as well.



I don't understand the complaint of 1/4 inch jacks. If this is a problem to you, spend $2.95 and buy an adapter.



I rate the keyboard 4 stars because it does have a great feel.

This comes quite close to the feel of a real piano--much closer than anything else I've tried out in this price range. My only complaint is that the keys are made of very cheap plastic, and if your fingers are dry they can be terribly slippery. For the price and overall feel of this keyboard, I consider it a minor complaint.

This is a great keyboard for beginners like myself. I've been playing on this keyboard for about 6 months and I have to say I do enjoy it, but I do wish the "buzz" sounds on some keys would go away. The keys are weighted but they do get "loose" overtime. it gets pretty lose if you play it heavily for few months. The best part about this keyboard is the weight. This is keyboard weights a lot less than Yamaha keyboards at similar grade, which means you can easily carry it with you. I bring this keyboard out at least twice a week and I don't have it problem about the weight - so if you bring out your keyboard a lot this keyboard is a plus. This is one of the reasons I gave this a 4 instead of a 3..the "buzz" sound something that REALLY annoys me when I'm playing - you can get rid of it if you wear headphones or buds. This keyboard also sounds very nice even on stock speakers - I think it is a little heavy on the bass but I don't mind that. There are about 60 songs build in and you can turn ON/OFF the LEFT OR RIGHT hand so it is good for practicing. The pedal that comes with this keyboard is not very good - I would get a 3rd party one. For the price I paid for, this is a GREAT keyboard..you really get what you paid for, if you want something better spend $200+ more on some Yamaha at similar quality.

The Casio Privia PX-120 is a perfect budget digital piano. I consider myself fairly knowledgeable about the feel between digital and acoustic pianos and I must say that the PX-120 does an outstanding job replicating the sound and feel of a real grand piano. There may not be many fancy features but it gets the job done. I'm a little upset how there is no 1/4" audio output or no USB output as well but I'll live.



Overall, the Privia PX-120 is a solid digital piano for any player of all skill levels.

Be very careful when ordering this product. The keyboard itself is great, but in the Amazon product description under "What's in the Box," it states that the keyboard comes with a stand. It does not in fact come with a stand. All you'll get here is the keyboard. I ordered this as a Christmas gift, so this was very embarrassing and disappointing. In the end, I returned the keyboard to Amazon, and purchased the exact same model from Target for a lower price, but with the stand and AC adaptor included!

We bought this online on Amazon for my 5-year-old nephew for Christmas -- haven't tested it on him yet, but we have met with a two concerns right off the bat:

- no AC adapter included in this package (it does state this on the website if you look under the specs). You can buy one separately for $17.95 on Amazon, or buy the keyboard with the accessories package for another $30 more, but with a stand and headphones too.



- it arrived at our door in the original Casio box, illustrated and all, packing label stuck to the box. Am actually surprised that no one stole it before we got home.



After stocking up on the 6 AA batteries it requires, it seems to be working well. Now we have to go order the plug!

We bought this keyboard last week and are having a blast with it!



I've always wanted to learn to play the piano, and while this isn't a piano, it's as close as I can get while I'm living in an apartment.



It came with a stand and power supply, but not headphones like the premium version, all for less than $100 at Target.



There is a song bank with over 100 songs to choose from, and it teaches you to play 3 different ways. It has a voice to tell you which fingers to use to play which can be turned off with the push of a button. The keys light up really well, and the sound is acceptable for the price.



The only thing that I don't like is the display. It's a little hard to see when you're sitting down and playing. It would be nice if it was angled a little so there wasn't a glare on the screen.



Overall, I'd say it's worth the money.
